Friday, Session D59, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Comparing and Contrasting Relationship
Development Intervention (RDI) and Applied
Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Presented by MaryLou Kerwin, Ph.D., BCBA-D and
Michelle Soreth, Ph.D., BCBA-D, Rowan University and
Colleen Gangemi, M.Ed., Family First, LLC.
A primary goal of RDI is to train parents in naturalized
settings to establish joint attention activities with their
child to increase the child’s awareness of their partner’s
actions and non-verbal communication. The presenters
will describe their development of a comprehensive
objective coding system based on measurement
techniques commonly used in Applied Behavior Analysis
(ABA). This system will be illustrated with videotaped
examples of adult and child interactions during RDI.
